No. 22 UNG Falls In Home Match Against No. 3 Flagler
DAHLONEGA – The No. 22 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team dropped a home match 6-1 against No. 3 Flagler at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Friday afternoon.
The Nighthawks (7-4, 1-1 Peach Belt) fell to the Saints (11-2, 1-0 Peach Belt) in the conference opener for Flagler.
The Saints took the doubles point early in the match with a pair of wins in the #1 and #3 doubles contest. Junior Pedro Liborio and freshman Janos Varga were able to come away with a dominant 6-0 win in #2 doubles but it would not be enough to earn the overall point for their team.
In singles, Flagler clinched the victory with wins in the #3, #6 and #2 matches to secure the 4-0 lead and win.
The Saints also added victories in #1 and #4 singles, but UNG sophomore Marcos Castellanos was the lone bright spot in #5 singles with a thrilling 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) win over Filip Kana.
Castellanos is now tied for the most singles win this season with six victories. ITA men's singles No. 56 and Nighthawk senior Robin Eldin also has six victories along with No. 15 Liborio this season.
UNG no looks ahead to a road match in Greenwood, S.C. against No. 10 Lander on Friday, April 4 at 2:30 p.m.
