No. 13 UNG Drops PBC Tournament Opener Against Augusta

DAHLONEGA – The No. 13 University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball team fell 4-0 to Augusta in the first round of the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park Friday afternoon.

The top-seeded Nighthawks struggled to find offense against the eighth-seeded Jaguars on Friday.

Augusta starting pitcher Garrett Wright threw over 130 pitchers in a complete-game shutout in the win.

Wright held UNG to season lows offensively with just three hits and zero runs. He only walked two batters and struck out six.

The Jaguars pulled ahead in the very first at bat of the game thanks to a solo home run from Nolan Turner.

Turner then poked a two-run single into center field in the second inning to give Augusta an early 3-0 advantage.

The Nighthawks did not record their first hit of the game until a double from senior third baseman Riley Frost in the bottom of the fifth inning.

By then the Jaguars led 4-0 after a solo home run from Zach Kwiatkoswki extended the lead.

Wright would only concede three more base runners the rest of the game as he held on for the shutout.

UNG now awaits the result of the other quarterfinal game held in Dahlonega between fourth-seeded Columbus State and fifth-seeded Georgia Southwestern. That game will resume at 11 a.m. Saturday after being interrupted and postponed in the second inning Friday. The Nighthawks will face the loser between the Cougars and Hurricanes Saturday at 5 p.m.
