AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the 11th straight season, the No. 8 University of North Georgia (UNG) softball team are Peach Belt Conference Regular-season champions after sweeping Augusta in a road doubleheader Friday.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the 11th straight season, the No. 8 University of North Georgia (UNG) softball team are Peach Belt Conference Regular-season champions after sweeping Augusta in a road doubleheader Friday.

The wins over the Jaguars (25-25, 5-15 Peach Belt) gave UNG (39-8, 18-2) the regular-season crown for the 14th time in program history. The Nighthawks have now won the league five more times than the next closest repeat champion in PBC history.

Dating back to the 2014 season, UNG has won 11 straight PBC regular-season titles. The last time UNG did not win the PBC regular season, it's senior class was in second grade, the Billboard No. 1 song in America was P!nk's "Just Give Me A Reason" and the final season of Netflix's "Breaking Bad" was released. Suffice it to say, it's been awhile.

With a 6-3 win in extra innings in game one and a 6-0 shutout in game two, the Nighthawks have now won 11 straight games marking their second double-digit win streak this year.

UNG will conclude the series at Augusta on Sunday with an 11 a.m. start against the Jaguars. The regular season concludes next week in Bluffton, S.C. with a three-game slate against USC Beaufort April 26-27.

Game 1: Nighthawks def. Jaguars, 6-3 (11 Inn.)
The Jaguars jumped ahead of UNG in the first inning with a two-run homer from Bailee Roberts.

In the third inning, the Nighthawks responded thanks to a two-run single from senior shortstop Rylie Moody to tie the game.

Moody, the most productive Nighthawk in game one, tied the game in the third inning and took the lead in the fifth.

She led off the inning with a solo home run to right field, her 11th dinger of the season. Moody is one of three UNG hitters with double digit home runs this season along with junior outfielder Natalie Ray and freshman catcher Carleigh Knowles. Five Nighthawks have six or more homers this year and 13 hitters have at least one big fly.

UNG rode the momentum of the homer as junior pitcher Chloe Poss kept the Jaguars at bay until the bottom of the seventh inning.

With runners at second and third, the Nighthawks needed just two more outs to pull out the one-run victory. However, a bunt single from Cadance Winder brought in the tying run to make it 3-3.

The game would go into extra innings. Both teams were retired in order in the eighth inning.

In the ninth, UNG had the bases loaded with no outs and a great opportunity to put the game on ice. However, a fly out double play and subsequent groundout got Augusta out of the jam without conceding a run.

Poss continued to pitch in the extra frames and continued to dominate. She retired the side in order in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings, giving her offense a chance to take the lead in the 11th.

It did just that as junior first baseman Marycille Brumby roped a lead-off triple to start the inning. Junior center fielder Sydnee Reaves then brought Bumby home with a single for the first run in extra innings.

Moody added to her stellar outing with an RBI double as Reaves scored from first base. The shortstop finished the day going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Moody came through to score the third run of the frame in the next at bat as Ray poked a single to right field.

With a 6-3 lead, Poss took the circle again in the bottom of the frame.A one-out walk did no harm as Poss recorded consecutive groundouts to finish the game and secure UNG's second extra-inning victory of the season.

Poss pitched a career-high 11 complete innings in the win. She moved to 15-2 on the season after allowing just three runs and three walks while recording eight strikeouts. Poss, who leads the team with a 2.65 earned run average, has tallied seven outings with seven or more strikeouts this season.

Game 2: Nighthawks def. Jaguars, 6-0
Poss dominated in the circle for 11 innings in game one. Senior pitcher Angelina Badalament would do the same for seven complete innings in game two.

UNG got ahead 1-0 in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Knowles as Reaves came in to score.

The lead was expanded in the third inning on an RBI single from Poss and a two-run base hit from senior third baseman Journey Roberts

Sophomore infielder Ava Lunsford added her first RBI of the day in the fourth inning with a single to center field to make it 5-0.

Badalament retired the side in order with a strikeout in the home half of the frame.

Moody continued to swing a hot bat as her RBI double in the fifth brought in another run to make it 6-0.

Badalament added another strikeout in the fifth inning and one more in the seventh to secure her league-leading 19th victory of the season. The Plant City, Fla. native ended the game with seven innings pitched, just four hits, two walks and four strikeouts to mark her 10th scoreless appearance and third complete-game shutout of the season.
