No. 16 Nighthawks Advance To Championship In 3rd Annual UNG Bracket Challenge

HOMER, Ga. – The No. 16 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team advanced to the championship match in the 3rd Annual UNG Bracket Challenge at Chimney Oaks Golf Club in Homer, Ga. on Monday.

HOMER, Ga. – The No. 16 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's golf team advanced to the championship match in the 3rd Annual UNG Bracket Challenge at Chimney Oaks Golf Club in Homer, Ga. on Monday.

The Bracket Challenge is a medal match play event. The concept is unique in that it is an all-inclusive event that includes three rounds of golf, six meals and an option for on-site accommodations that are walking distance to the Forge, putting green and range.

This year's field consists of No. 16 and host UNG, No. 21 Lander, Columbus State (CSU) and Eastern Florida State (EFSC).

Each team medal match will consist of five points with one point being awarded for each individual match, or in the case of an individual match being tied a half point will be awarded.

Each individual match will be played to its completion and the first team to win three points within the team match will advance. The point in an individual match is awarded to the player with the lowest round in stroke play format. If a team match is tied after all five individual matches, the total strokes of the five players from each team will be calculated with the winning team having the fewest strokes.

The third annual event is being treated as a 54-hole stroke play event on the Scoreboard by Clippd. Following a 36-hole seeding round on Monday, the teams were seeded into a bracket for internal medal match play on Tuesday. For the medal match play round, teams will be allowed to make substitutions prior to that round's pairings announcement.

Lander earned a championship berth with the top 36-hole team score after combining to go 6-over par at the 6,106-yard, par-72 Chimney Oaks GC on Monday.

The Nighthawks will face the Bearcats in the championship as they came in two shots behind Lander at 8-over after the 36-hole seeding rounds.

EFSC and CSU will participate in the third-place match as the Titans combined to shoot 46-over on Monday while the Cougars finished at 57-over.

UNG junior Cora Mount made headlines on Monday as she tied the tournament-low round thus far with a 4-under 68 in the opener. Mount Carded five birdies in her first round as she tied the third-lowest individual 18-hole score in program history with the performance.

Mount sits in fourth place on the individual leaderboard and will face Lander's Sakurako Tanaka in the championship on Tuesday.

Sophomore Abby Franks posted the best 36-hole score for the Nighthawks on Monday as she finished both rounds a combined 1-over. After shooting a 2-over 74 in the opener, Franks posted three birdies in the second round to shoot a 1-under 71.

She will face Isabel Ewers in the final match of the championship pairing on Tuesday.

Senior Jadin Ware carded the best second round of any UNG golfer Monday with a 2-under 70. She sits in fifth on the individual leaderboard and will square off with Lander's Gracie McCoy in the final.

A new champion will be crowned on Tuesday as the Nighthawks and Bearcats are both in search of their first-ever Bracket Challenge Championship.
